"See Your Shot"
Last week we put a focus on goal setting strategies –what you put in, you get out, and understanding that writing down your goals gives you a power over the process. We worked with each student to focus on ONE thing during practice.
This week we will focus on the positions of the draw and bow hands, and blend more of the previous mental focus training.

We often say: “See your Shot”, meaning bring your draw hand up so that it is in front of your face about nose height, draw-hand in line with the sight to the target, and you will “see” your shot…see the hand that is holding the string.  This sets your alignment into an angular rather than linier motion, allowing your draw rotation to take place more easily, and the back to load, as the bow arm is slightly off to the left (for right handed shooters).

“See your  Shot” can also mean that you do not blink. An article reviewed greater successes in archery with a simple awareness of not blinking, and maintaining eye focus for the few seconds of draw /load /anchor/transfer/ hold/ aim/ release/ follow-through.
As we have practiced in recent training, the mental portion of “See your Shot”, means to visualize the entire shot sequence in your mind with eyes closed, by removing yourself from the line, and mime the entire shot sequence, with eyes closed, no equipment, going through perfect form, seeing your shot, all arrows landing in the gold.

We will work on these training techniques this week, and have information available for those wishing to attend the JOAD Nationals,  and or Nationals in February. Deadline is Feb 3 for no late fees.

Please check-your division may have changed due to an upcoming birthday!
Divisions are based on the year in which your age changes-
for example- if you turn 15 sometime this year, you are a Cadet, no longer a cub.
You can always choose a more demanding higher division. ( example Cadet can shoot adult/senior)

Reminder Changes in USA Archery JOAD/SOAD Club rules
USA Archery has implemented several new safety guidelines: The United States Olympic Committee (USOC) has launched a new Safe Sport (http://safesport.org/) initiative, which puts the safety of athletes participating in Olympic, Paralympic sports, and programs front and center. Some key initiatives to support this effort have been implemented by USA Archery, beginning in January 2014, which involve updates to the Code of Conduct, liability efforts and a general safe environment. USA Archery requires membership with everyone who is engaged in activities and programs of USA Archery to  ensure that all members participating in USA Archery programs and activities are familiar with and agree to the terms of membership and accept the terms of the Code of Conduct, especially as they relate to Safe Sport initiatives.

JOAD/SOAD
As one of the key USA Archery National Ranking Programs, membership at the youth, adult or family level is now required to earn any rank through the JOAD/SOAD programs.

If your Learn Archery membership is expiring, you will be required to also have a USA Archery full membership to renew and receive pins/lanyards.
Join online for either membership level at  https://webpoint.usarchery.org/wp/Memberships/Join.wp   choose "Learn Archery" as your club affiliation

As current adult, youth or family member of USA Archery, these changes will not affect students participating in the JOAD/SOAD rank earning programs, registering for tournaments, Camps etc. and that full membership continues to provide liability insurance.

New Students: Mail-in Tournaments, Recreational camps- participant needs minimum “RECREATIONAL” membership ($15)USA Archery requires a recreational membership ($15) to participate in mail-in tournaments, recreational camps, and, the introductory recreational status ensures the athlete agrees to abide by the Code of Conduct and membership guidelines, and it allows USA Archery to cover the RECREATIONAL status members  with insurance policies during their participation at JOAD/SOAD Clubs. A RECREATIONAL membership can be upgraded later to a full membership by adding only the difference in fee should the student wish to participate in JOAD/SOAD rank earning programs, tournaments, etc. Join online for either membership level at  https://webpoint.usarchery.org/wp/Memberships/Join.wp   choose "Learn Archery" as your club affiliation
