Archery Class Training: SCORE
Outside DISTANCES  are determined by rank student is working for. Know the rank you need.
15 meters is shortest rank earning distance using 122 cm faces for JOAD youth  (ages 9-20 yrs)
30 Meters is shortest rank earning distance for SOAD adult (ages 18 and up) .
Indoor distances are either 9 or 18 meters, with either a 60 or 40 cm face.

New students, adult or youth, may use larger and closer distances as they are learning.

Each month, on the third weekend we score. As we were closed August 16th and 17th this is our third weekend.
New students begin to learn the ins and outs of what each ring is worth, the power of the lines that edge the rings, and what arrows may help in a strategy to gain points . New archers learn how to keep score, and may keep the scorecards to have a log of their own progress. If students are a member of the Learn Archery & USA Archery JOAD/SOAD program, they can use this session to earn rank and pin awards. This continual "dry-run" makes scoring at an event more comfortable and into a no-brainer.
Youth are to learn how to do this, independent of parental supervision.

Scoring Class Basics:

  • Earning pins: must be a USA Archery Youth, Adult or Family member & Learn Archery member- print USA Archery membership card
  • Please arrive early to obtain and fill out your score card with name, distance, and date .
  • First scoring arrow begins at 10:30 Saturday and 3:30 on Sunday,  Arrive early if you need to have practice/sight-in shots.
  • In order to complete the 30 (or 36 arrows if outdoors) students must be geared up and on the line at 10:30 (or 3:30 Sunday) at start of class, with scorecard filled out and ready to go.
  • Focus for completing score cards will be on JOAD or SOAD members earning rank
  • Those with their own arrows may shoot 6 arrows each end which will allow completion of scorecard if "on time" start.
  • Those seasoned JOAD SOAD members using program arrows will start with three arrows, unless class numbers permit 6 arrows each end, however student may not finish in time allotted.
  • Adults not scoring at their appropriate distances with correct size faces, or students not members of JOAD/SOAD using program arrows will only use 3 arrows each end for time considerations for those earning rank , and will not end with a completed card.
  • New students focus will be to learn protocol, and how to complete the score cards, and will shoot only 3 arrows per end( will not end with a completed a score card due to time considerations.)

Class may run longer during scoring sessions if earning rank/pins.
Students need to pre-fill  scorecards upon arrival.

Effective January 1 , 2014 per USA Archery.
As we are a USA Archery JOAD & SOAD club, any student participating in class needs minimum USA Archery “RECREATIONAL” membership ($15)
(Note: Although you can not earn rank at Recreational membership level when scoring, you can upgrade during your membership year if desired).
