Archery Class Training: "Write it down + quadrant training"
Last week we scored, and this weekend students will receive their pins/lanyards earned (must be full JOAD member to earn rank)

I will provide quadrant training sheets this session which allow students to see very clearly the patterns of the arrows on the targets by tracking them on these sheets


Write it Down

Training in archery focuses on form. Each step in your routine should take the same amount of time, each and every time, to get the best accuracy. Consistency is about repeatability. The entire shooting process should take about 10 seconds, with about 3 seconds to aim. Variations on that, results in variations at the target.

The best way to settle into a routine is to write it down, and note your specific variations for your routine. (example: I must always close my left eye, and turn my draw arm elbow out, and I put those elements into an auto-pilot sequence). As you add in new skills, old ones become sub-conscious elements. It is crucial that you add-in a specific element, work on mastering it, then add another. If you build on top of elements that don’t support your goals, you will be building sub-conscious elements that will be difficult to unlearn.

Be willing to expand and add new techniques. Poor form shows up as we move to longer distances, and really shows up during a long set of shooting. Yes, we all step up, shoot, and repeat, but have something specific to work on.

Typical steps useful as an outline in various styles- compound, recurve, barebow. (note: aim is far down the list!) Add your personal variations!

5.Draw/load
6.Anchor
7. Load & transfer then hold
8.Aim & expand
9.Release
10.Follow Through

Any student participating in class needs minimum USA Archery “RECREATIONAL” membership ($15)

To earn rank/pins, student must hold a full "youth" or "adult" , or "family" membership, rather than recreational, + Learn Archery JOAD Club membership

To participate , Please reply with the time selected, RH LH, and name in the subject line. and if adult or youth via learnarchery@yahoo.com  if you have not already done so, for equipment and staff considerations.Please arrive  early to gear up, and sign in. Begin to know your distances and target face size by putting them on the appropriate target. This one hour class allows students to gear up & continue with training basics in safety and form .Coach supervised training includes recurve bow and all safety equipment. Continuing, ongoing instruction , accommodating various skill levels, covering: refining form, understanding equipment needs, equipment purchasing options, tournament rules, timing, string alignment, concentration, back tension.

-Class fee for open sessions as posted at the Canton location is $15.00, check or cash.
-Put your sight on the bow to learn where it is set based on the distance you shoot, and check the left/ right position of the aperture.
-Wear snug fitting, layered clothing, ( must have closed toe shoes for out doors or can not shoot), tie loose hair back, and remove jewelry that may interfere with string release (usually bracelets, necklaces).
