Training: Endurance. First and last, the same. We have been reviewing the effortless appearance in the "process" of Elite archers, and noting the work, mistakes, re-dos, sacrifices, do it again, again, again...that all led to the appearance of "effortlessness". This week we will work on Endurance.
The upcoming indoor tournaments require a minimum of 60 arrows shot in any one segment. If you schedule two segments on the same day, you are looking at 120 arrows, not including the warm up/ sight in arrows. Students hear coaches recommending SPT  training during the week, and when possible, shooting arrows and increasing the comfortable number of arrows shot "in best form". Competitive athletes shoot regularly, train with SPT's, and build skills and endurance. The first arrow should be in as good form and level of fatigue as the last. Attending tournaments often is an excellent way to become accustom to the chaos at a tournament, and learn how to set the nerves aside. Early tournament play allows the archer to experience the event, how much effort is needed, what happens at the tourney, who scores, what happens when mistakes are made, etc. As the archer becomes more proficient, puts the weekday training into their schedule, and gains endurance, the tournament results fall closer to the goals the archer has set.
This weekend, the focus will be on shooting, and how many ends can be shot without fatigue.

PARENTS: share this with your students
Please arrive early to get geared up if you are using our gear.
Those with equipment-please arrive early to check in. Come with your equipment ready.
Review your gear the night before. Check your brace height. It should be the SAME every time. Write it down, or mark it on your bow square. Look over your arrows. Be sure they have your initials on the SHAFT-not fletches. Check for broken gear-nocks, strings; look over your tab and arrow rest. Bring your bow stand, particularly if you are planning to attend a tournament. Have a pen in your quiver. Bring a small bar of soap in a zip lock, or buy arrow lube at the store to take to the tournament.

Use this as a dry run for a tournament. Use the time to launch as many arrows as possible in best form in the time allotted during class.
We will push out  past 11:30 for JOAD SOAD Tournament competitors who may stay after and continue to shoot while we set up for the orientation.
