Sunday Oct 21 & Wednesday Oct 24:Score!

Each month, we set aside a specific session to score.
New students begin to learn the ins and outs of what each ring is worth, the power of the lines that edge the rings, and what arrows may help in a strategy to gain points . New archers keep score and may keep the scorecards to have a log of their own progress. If students are a member of the JOAD/SOAD program, they can turn in cards to earn rank and pin awards. This continual "dry-run" makes scoring at an event more comfortable and into a no-brainer.

Training:
How does your routine work when the need to make the high score, or beat the other competitors and take home the gold medal, trophy or the coveted "hot Soda", comes into play? Give yourself a goal of a “personal best” . How do you "use" the nerves?
When an archer concentrates on score, or outcome, they give themselves a disadvantage. Keeping the mind on the process, each step...each piece...one after another, gives the most composure, and best results.

We will score as we have in the past, shooting the indoor rounds on Wednesday - 30 arrows ( 10 ends -3 arrows each), and all must be on the appropriate target face at your distance, Out door rounds were Sunday (6 arrows x 6 ends).

We will use the scorecards you are familiar with, and students will score in an official manner, with two archers scoring and checking together, and,JOAD/ SOAD members can submit scorecards for a National mail-in tournament. . You may enter the 4th quarter National Mail-in Tournament when scoring in these session. ($10 entry fee)
Official categories as outlined by USA Archery:

October 14 : Tape it up!

October 14 : Tape it up!
Sundays:

11:30-class outdoors, rain or shine.

 3:00 class weather looks good-outdoors!

Wednesday:
October 17: 6:30  Too dark for outside, we will be inside!

Last week we worked on getting the wrist snap-“sit dog!” with the sling doing the work to catch the bow. Bow arm stays STEADY.
Only the wrist snaps downward, with slight tension in the open thumb of the bow hand, and several students brought
a shoelace to learn to make bow slings, sized to fit their hand.

This week we will focus again on the bow hand, and mark the lifeline with a pen, and tape the area that should touch the bow grip. We all use our hands constantly and when it comes to the setting of our hands into the bow, we try to "control" rather than simply "place". We will start with some blank bale training.

"PURPOSE: So what exactly is the purpose of the bow hand? What are we supposed to do with our hand when we put it on the bow’s grip section? The answer is simple; place the hand on the bow in a manner that allows the arm bones to resist the force loads that occur when the bow is drawn to full draw position." Oct 6: "Sit Dog"!

Oct 6: : Sit Dog!!
11:30-class outdoors, rain or shine.

3:30 class weather looks good-outdoors.

Wednesday 6:30 pm Sessions underway!

Last week discussed using SMART goals and implementing them into our training, and being prepared. Students can begin with simple plans of SPTs( specific physical training) at home with stretch bands or bows, and also start measuring progress for their own personal score goals. Students continue to earn rank, and work on form.

Training: "sit dog!!"
Equipment: what do arrows look like when you start from scratch to build them.
Bring a shoelace-wide , long (can be colorful or with a pattern if you like) to learn to make your own bow slings, sized to fit your hand.

We started basic training with “halt dog” to get the proper “v” in our bow hand position. Depending on the type of bow and style you shoot, gripping of the bow and dropping the bow arm creates errors at the last moment of the shot, and the idea is to shoot the bow and arrow at the same time…so the hand holding the bow must be relaxed, but purposeful ,so the sling can do its job as the bow seemingly “jumps” from the hand toward the target and rotates as the sling catches it.
From the wrist-“sit dog!” with the sling doing the work to catch the bow. Bow arm stays STEADY.
Only the wrist snaps downward, with slight tension in the open thumb of the bow hand.
